Shaping the future of food and digital responsibility together: outcomes of the DRG4FOOD Roadmap workshops

The DRG4FOOD roadmap intends to help in guiding the transformation of the Europe’s food system into a more fair, transparent, and responsible environment. The roadmap gives clear recommendations to governments, businesses, researchers, and civil society on how to use digital tools in a way that protects people’s rights, builds trust, and benefits everyone. The roadmap calls for strong cooperation between sectors and long-term support, including investment in education, digital tools, and public involvement. Overall, the roadmap shows how digital innovation in food can help both people and the planet, while staying true to European values and goals for a sustainable future.

Over the past few months, DRG4FOOD hosted a series of three interactive online workshops with a clear goal: to refine and validate our roadmap for embedding digital responsibility in food systems. During these sessions we called the participation of citizens, experts, innovators, and policymakers to ensure that the roadmap truly meets real-world needs.

During the sessions, we went through an overall introduction to DRG4FOOD project, the purpose of the project, the DRGs and the Roadmap Strategic Actions. Following that, we had our interactive feedback and discussion. The topic of discussion was based on actions to develop solution in   3 use cases: Food tracking, targeted nutrition, consumer food choices. As you can see also on the picture below, each topic of interest had some action points to be commented upon.

All insights gathered during the workshops are being used to finalise the roadmap. After evaluating them carefully, the new DRG4FOOD Roadmap change to the following:

In the new roadmap, there are two key strategic areas. The first area is valid for all use cases and contains five sub-areas. The second strategic area represents the food tracking use cases. For each area or sub-area, actions were created to empower informed decision-making, promote healthier eating habits, and strengthen consumer resilience in an increasingly digital food landscape.
